Most people who come to the Akashic Records for the first time arrive with one big question: Will he come back? Will I get the job? Is this the right city? And most of them leave a little disappointed, not because the Records were silent, but because the question was built for a fortune teller, not for a library of the soul.

The Akashic Records are often described as the energetic memory of every soul: every choice, contract, lesson and possibility your soul has carried across lifetimes. Opening them is less like asking for a prediction and more like walking into a vast library with a librarian who answers exactly what you ask. Ask a small question and you get a small answer. Ask a question that is honest and open, and the answer can rearrange how you see your whole life.

This guide walks you through how to frame questions for your own Akashic reading, whether you are opening your records yourself, booking a reading, or working with an Akashic oracle deck.

Why the question matters more than the reader

In an Akashic reading, the question is the doorway. The Records respond to intention and clarity, so the wording you bring shapes the depth of what comes through. Two people can sit with the same reader on the same day. One asks, “Will my marriage survive?” and gets a short, foggy response. The other asks, “What is my soul learning through this marriage, and what is mine to change?” and walks away with guidance she can act on that evening.

The difference is not luck. The second question gives the Records room to show the why and the how, which is what they hold best.

Five principles for a strong Akashic question

1. Ask “what” and “how”, not “will” or “when”

Yes/no and timing questions close the door. The Records are not a calendar; they show the energy behind a situation and the choices available inside it. Instead of “Will I find love this year?”, ask “What is blocking me from receiving love right now, and how can I release it?”

2. Keep the question about you

You can ask about your relationship with someone, but not about their private soul journey. “Why does my mother behave like this?” becomes “What is the soul contract between my mother and me, and what am I here to learn from it?” The answer stays useful because it stays in your hands.

3. One theme per question

A question that holds three topics gets a diluted answer. Separate money, love and purpose. If you have many concerns, list them all, then pick the one that carries the most charge in your body today.

4. Ask from curiosity, not fear

A fearful question (“Am I being punished?”) pulls in a heavy answer. A curious question (“What is this experience teaching my soul?”) opens the Records to show the lesson and the release.

5. Be ready to act on the answer

The Records give guidance, not entertainment. Before you ask, decide that you are willing to do something with what comes through, even if it is small.

Questions to try, by life area

Here are well-framed questions you can use as they are, or adapt to your own words.

Relationships

  • What soul contract am I carrying with this person, and is it complete?
  • What do I keep attracting in partners, and what in me is calling it in?
  • What would it look like to love without losing myself?

Money and work

  • What belief about money did I carry into this life, and where did it come from?
  • What is the next right step for my work, and what is holding me back from taking it?
  • What gift am I here to share that I am not using yet?

Purpose and healing

  • What is my soul’s main lesson in this lifetime?
  • Which past experience still needs healing for me to move forward?
  • What do my guides want me to know right now?

Questions that rarely work (and how to rewrite them)

  • “Will he call me?” becomes “What is the purpose of this connection in my life?”
  • “When will I get married?” becomes “What do I need to heal to be ready for a committed partnership?”
  • “Should I quit my job, yes or no?” becomes “What is my soul asking for in my work, and what would honour that?”
  • “Is my friend lying to me?” becomes “What do I need to understand about trust in this friendship?”

Notice that each rewrite moves the power back to you. That is the single biggest shift a beginner can make.

How to prepare before you open your Records

  1. Write your question down a day before your reading. Read it again in the morning. If it still feels true, keep it.
  2. Sit in silence for a few minutes. Breathe slowly and let the mind settle. A calm body hears more clearly.
  3. Set an intention: that you will receive only what is for your highest good, and that you are open to it.
  4. Keep a notebook nearby. Guidance often arrives as a word, an image, a memory or a feeling. Write it all down without judging it.
  5. Do not ask the same question again and again in the same day. Sit with the first answer.

Using Akashic oracle cards with your questions

If you are not yet comfortable opening your records through prayer and meditation, an Akashic oracle deck gives you a gentle, visual entry point. You hold your question, shuffle, and draw. The card shows the theme the Records are pointing to, and the guidebook helps you read it.

Neha Singla channelled the Akashic Healing Oracle Deck (85 cards) specifically for soul-contract work, so it pairs naturally with the questions above. You can also try a free soul contract card reading on her web app before you buy a deck.

Not feeling overwhelmed by the answers

Some answers are tender. If a reading brings up grief or old memories, slow down. Drink water, take a walk, and write. The Records never show you more than you can hold, but your mind may need time to catch up with what your soul already knows.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open my own Akashic Records?

Yes. Anyone with a sincere intention can learn to open their own records. Many beginners start with a guided prayer, a meditation, or an Akashic oracle deck, and build trust in their intuition over time. Neha’s book Akashic Reading Unlocked: Step by Step Guide is written for exactly this stage.

How many questions should I ask in one reading?

Three to five well-framed questions are usually enough for one sitting. Depth matters more than number.

What if I do not understand the answer?

Write it down anyway. Meaning often becomes clear in the following days, especially when you notice how the guidance shows up in real situations.

Can the Akashic Records predict the future?

The Records show possibilities based on the energy of the present and the choices in front of you. The future stays open, because your free will is part of the reading.
