He texts at midnight and disappears for a week. She says she is not ready, but she does not leave. You know the script by heart: hope, waiting, a crumb of warmth, more waiting. And when you finally walk away, the next person who makes your heart race turns out to be unavailable too.

Therapy calls this an attachment style. Friends call it bad luck. The Akashic Records add a third view: the soul story behind the attraction. When you understand what your soul is trying to complete, the pull towards unavailable love starts to loosen, and a different kind of partner starts to feel attractive.

What “unavailable” really means

An unavailable partner is not always married or far away. Unavailability can look like:

  • someone who is emotionally closed and changes the subject when feelings come up;
  • someone who loves you in private but will not commit in public;
  • someone still tied to an ex, a parent or their work;
  • someone who is kind but never fully present.

And here is the uncomfortable part: if you keep meeting unavailable people, some part of you is unavailable too, usually the part that does not yet believe it is safe to be fully loved.

Three soul stories behind unavailable love

In Akashic readings, attraction to unavailable partners often traces back to one of three soul stories.

1. The unfinished contract

You may have made a soul contract with this person, or with this kind of person, in an earlier life. The contract is not complete, so the soul keeps recreating the situation, hoping this time it will end differently. Recognising the contract is the first step to completing it. (Read more in What Is a Soul Contract?)

2. The childhood imprint

The first love we learn is from our parents. If love in your early life came with distance, unpredictability or conditions, your nervous system may read that distance as “home”. An available partner can then feel boring or even unsafe, while an unavailable one feels like destiny.

3. The vow from another life

Some souls carry vows such as “I will never depend on anyone again” or “Love always ends in loss”. These vows protected you once. In this life they quietly choose partners who can never get close enough to hurt you, which also means they can never get close enough to love you.

How to break the loop

Notice the moment of attraction

The next time someone makes your heart race, pause and ask: Is this recognition, or is this an old wound recognising a familiar shape? You do not have to act on the answer. Just notice.

Ask the Records the right question

Instead of “Will he change?”, ask:

  • What is the soul contract between us, and is it complete?
  • What part of me feels safer with someone who cannot fully show up?
  • What do I need to heal to feel attracted to love that stays?

Release the vow

If an old vow comes up, speak it aloud and then release it: “I made this vow to protect myself. It has served its purpose. I release it now, and I choose love that is safe and present.” Write it, burn the paper, and let it go.

Practise receiving

Unavailable love asks you to chase. Available love asks you to receive. Start small: accept a compliment without deflecting, let a friend help you, rest without earning it. Receiving is a muscle.

A three-card love spread

Use any Akashic oracle deck, or the Love Akashic Oracle:

  1. What draws me to this person or this kind of partner.
  2. What my soul is learning through this connection.
  3. What will free me to choose a different kind of love.

When to stay and when to go

The Records rarely say “leave” or “stay”. They show what the connection is for. Sometimes the contract is complete and the kindest choice is to let go with gratitude. Sometimes both people are ready to grow, and the relationship becomes available once the old story is seen. The answer you need is the one that leaves you more whole, not more anxious.

Frequently asked questions

Is attraction to unavailable partners my fault?

No. It is a pattern learned for protection, and it can be unlearned. Seeing it clearly is already the beginning of change.

Can an unavailable partner become available?

Sometimes, when they choose their own healing. You cannot do that work for them. Your work is to become fully available to yourself.

How can the Love Akashic Oracle help?

The deck turns a confusing relationship into a story you can read: who this person is to your soul, what the connection is teaching, and what heals it. You can explore the Love Akashic Oracle or draw a free card on the reading app.
